Join Anita as she leads the group through an exploration of Jesus and femininity in Jesus Sophia.
Who is Jesus Sophia? Sophia is “wisdom” and we learn about her in the book of Proverbs. Jesus is Christ and we learn about Him in the Gospels. So how can we talk about Jesus Sophia? And why?
Sophia plays a role not only in Proverbs but is found in the intertestament writings as well. She even shows up in the Christian Scriptures. But is she a she in the way we understand “sheness”? Jesus we all know is a man. The scriptures agree, but the scriptures do some unexpected things with Jesus comparing himself to a mother hen. We might even have a breast feeding Jesus in 1 Peter. Both are with God before the beginning. Both are the source of all created things. Both feed others with their body.
For some Jewish thinkers, Sophia becomes Torah. For Christian thinkers, Jesus becomes Christ. Are the two one? If so, what happens to their gender? What difference does this make? Is this just some strange idea that we "libtards" came up with or does this resonate with what others are thinking at the time the Christian scriptures are written. Will this change our understanding of Jesus and what God is seeking from us?
Open yourself up to the possibilities and the questions that have no certain answers as we study the book “Jesus Sophia” by Sally Douglas.
PLEASE NOTE! Your individual purchase of this book is not necessary to participate. Your registration will enable you to receive not only Zoom information but also materials for each session. Read a Review of Jesus Sophia. ”In this groundbreaking book, Sally Douglas excavates biblical and early Christian understandings of Jesus as the female divine. Drawing from her expertise as a New Testament scholar and theologian, Douglas accessibly sets out the evidence for Jesus Sophia and then explores its practical implications, both for the church--often suffocated by God-as-male imagery--and for our day-to-day lives.”

In partnership with Zion Church
Dear All,
As you know, Pastor Mo recently lost his beloved husband, Pastor Shawn Brandon. During this difficult time, we are coming together to support him in any way we can, and providing meals is one small but meaningful way to help.
Please consider signing up for a night to provide a meal. We kindly ask that you make enough so there are leftovers.
Link for sign up: https://takethemameal.com/IFSF2547
If cooking is not your thing, you are more than welcome to drop off or email food gift cards to pastormogoff@gmail.com. (If you send a gift card please still sign up for a night and simple state gift card). The church is in a bit of a food desert, so Grubhub, Uber Eats, and DoorDash gift cards would be especially helpful.
Additionally, if you would like to include bagels, pastries, or other breakfast items, those would be greatly appreciated as well.
Drop-Off Instructions:
Meals can be delivered Monday–Friday between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM at Zion church. Our sexton, James, will receive all deliveries.
Please come to the back of the church parking lot (154 N. Gay Street, there will be a sign that says Zion Church parking), proceed through the gates, and ring the bell.
Kindly include a note with who the meal is for and who it is from—a small “thinking of you” message is always appreciated.
Important: We are unable to return dishes, so please use containers that can be kept or discarded.
Thank you so much for your love, care, and support, it truly means a great deal during this time. Grace and peace,
Christy Luis
Office Administrator, Zion Church of the City of Baltimore, 400 E. Lexington Street Baltimore, MD 21202

Celebrate Emily’s seven years with us as founding Pastor to Dreams and Visions, and sent her off to her new call in New Haven.
We’re excited to hold a special celebration to honor our relationship with our partner congregations, Good Trouble Church and St. Mark’s, and come together to celebrate the pastor who’s helped lead us into relationship.
Swing by 1900 St. Paul Street earlier than usual to share cake with our partners, bless the mosaic by Sarah Grace Etherton we created collaboratively, and then share some food, stories, and words of blessing with Pastor Emily. We’ll then head upstairs to the Queer Saints Chapel for our Simple Sunday Service.
At this intimate gathering, we read scripture, sing simple songs, share about our lives and share communion. February’s service will focus on blessing Pastor Emily, and explore one of her favorite theological ideas: realized eschatology.
The service is informal, beautiful, and lasts about an hour.
Come as you are and leave renewed.

On January 26, there will be a Wellness Day taking place during Boutique Hours:
These are not easy days for LGBTQ+ kin.
More than ever, it’s important to find ways to nourish our souls, support our bodies, and engage in healing practices.
Dreams and Visions has teamed up with the Baltimore Center for Psychotherapy who are sponsoring a FREE wellness day.
Come together to sit in stillness and receive an auricular acupuncture treatment and guided contemplation with Laura Sicari of Sicari Healing Arts.
This treatment, called the NADA protocol, was pioneered in Lincoln Hospital, Bronx, NY in the 1970’s by the Black Panthers and Young Lords to empower people towards recovery without developing a dependency on
pharmaceuticals. It helps our bodies to remember their innate capacities for self-regulation, and gives us an opportunity to find ease in community. Five sterile, hair-thin needles will be placed in each ear, and we’ll sit from 20-60 minutes, depending on your comfort level.
Please sign up in advance and let us know you’re coming!
The treatment takes place sitting in a chair. Plan to arrive at 2:45 to sign a release form and settle in. The session will last one hour.
